Court date for banned van driver stopped in Clare village amid positive cocaine test

Gardai say the detection was made in Crusheen after 'obvious defects' were noticed on vehicle

A motorist is facing prosecution before the courts for multiple offences arising from a routine traffic stop in Crusheen village.

Gardai have highlighted the detection which was made during the June Bank Holiday weekend.

"This driver was stopped due to obvious defects with their vehicle. They then produced a fake licence and failed a drug test for cocaine," reads the post on Facebook.

Gardai say further checks showed the driver of the white van was already disqualified.

According to the social media post, the driver was  arrested and will now face court.

It's understood the vehicle was also seized by gardai.

Separately, a motorist failed an early-morning roadside breath test after they were stopped at a joint garda/customs checkpoint in Crusheen.

That incident has also been highlighted on social media with gardai stating that the motorist had been drinking the night before but that the level of alcohol in their system was still above the legal limit the following day.

"Don't let the night before come into the morning after," stated the post.

"If you are drinking and planning on driving the next day, be aware you could still be over the limit. This is what happened the driver of this car who was recently arrested by our Roads Policing unit in Crusheen after failing a breath test," added the spokesperson.
