Students from a number of schools in Clare represented the county during last week’s Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition, with two emerging as well-deserved winners.
A total of 21 projects from five schools qualified for this year's event, which was sponsored by Stripe for the first time.

Almost 2,000 entries were received for the contest which took place between January 7 and 10 - a total of 550 projects were shortlisted.

The five schools that represented Clare on the national stage were Mary Immaculate Secondary School (13 projects); Ennistymon Community School (three projects); St Joseph’s Secondary School, Tulla (three projects); St John Bosco Community College (one project) and Shannon Comprehensive (one project).
Emerging victorious were two projects from students at Mary Immaculate Secondary School. Béibhinn O’Loughlin was presented with the Geological Survey Ireland Award for her project 'An Initial Analysis of 320 Million-Year-Old Micro Coprolites from Doolin’ while Oisín Jackson was presented with the National Water Forum Award for his project 'TURCAST: Forecasting Turlough Depths Through Machine Learning and Data Analysis.'
