Veteran journalist Cathy Halloran is beginning a new chapter in her journalism career as she joins the world of academia at University of Limerick.
Cathy officially retired in May of this year from RTÉ as the Mid-West correspondent after her 38-year career with the national broadcaster. She was appointed to the role in 1993, covering news across Clare, Limerick and Tipperary.
Her new role at the University of Limerick will see her teaching in the Journalism Department, focusing on broadcast, print and social media journalism, as well as communications and presentation training.

This new beginning will see her share her extensive industry knowledge with the next generation of reporters.
Announcing her new role on social media, the university said, “We’re thrilled to welcome Cathy Halloran, renowned broadcaster to teach in the University of Limerick Journalism Department.”
“With decades of experience at RTE and regional media, Cathay’s dedication expertise and passion for storytelling make her an incredible addition to our team. Her insights and hands-on experience will offer students a unique chance to learn from one of the best in the industry,” the announcement concluded.
Halloran, a Dublin native, served as RTÉ’s Mid West Correspondent for 31 years and was a known voice across radio and television news in the region.
Her journalism career began in the early 1980s with The Farmer Magazine, followed by a stint at the Connacht Tribune in Galway. In 1987, she joined RTÉ News, covering a wide range of national stories.
