Kilrush artist's latest exhibition inspired by stunning landscapes of West Clare

‘Painting through the lens’ will run from August 5 to September 4

Clare Arts Office, in conjunction with Cultúrlann Sweeney Library Gallery, is delighted to present an incredible new art exhibition, titled, ‘Painting through the lens.’

The artist is Pauline Dunleavy and she is a Kilrush native, specialising as an art teacher and community advocate rooted in the dramatic landscapes of West Clare. The creator draws endless inspiration from the shifting moods of the River Shannon and the Atlantic coast.

Ms Dunleavy's deep connection with the sea comes from her former career, where she worked with lifeboat crew and as a Station Manager with the Kilrush Royal National Lifeboat Institution for over 25 years.

Now painting for nearly three decades, Pauline's style has matured into vibrant pieces that are rich in texture and transparency, often incorporating abstract elements layered with pastel, charcoal and acrylic before final oil or wax finishes.

Her creative approach begins with music, layered gesso and quick studies. She uses photo references and mirrors to evaluate composition, spraying, erasing and layering until the piece feels complete. The artist finds beauty in the ordinary local scenes such as boglands, seascapes and coastlines. This comes through in her work.
Pauline often photographs landscapes before painting. Referencing photos during her process helps to capture the authenticity of light, mood and composition. The Clare native waits days before signing the work to ensure total satisfaction of the piece.
‘Painting through the lens’ will run from August 5 to September 4, with the official opening taking place on August 8 at 7pm. Don't miss it!
