The warnings put in place urging publicans to avoid swimming at three popular beaches in Clare have now been lifted, the Council has confirmed.
On Wednesday, July 16, a bathing prohibition was introduced at Lahinch beach after the results of routine bathing water samples showed elevated levels of bacteria.
Following this notice came the closures of White Strand beach in Doonbeg and White Strand beach in Miltown Malbay after their results also showed the presence of high levels of bacteria.
Clare County Council believe the cause of this is run-off from the catchment after exceptionally heavy rainfall.
On Saturday, July 19, the advisory notice at White Strand Doonbeg was lifted following additional investigative sampling and advice from the HSE.
On Sunday afternoon, July 20, the Council confirmed that both the bathing prohibition at Lahinch beach and the advisory notice at White Strand in Miltown Malbay were also lifted following further investigations.
In accordance with An Taisce’s Blue Flag programme, the blue flag will be reinstated at all three locations.
