Clare libraries are again inviting children to dive into the joy of reading with the Summer Stars Reading Programme.

Summer Stars is a free national programme that encourages children to read for fun during the school holidays. Whether it’s picture books, graphic novels or audiobooks, every child can take part and enjoy reading at their own pace.
Children can sign up at their nearest library and every child who joins Summer Stars will receive an activity book and a wildflower bookmark.
A special Summer Stars collection of eBooks and eAudio Books are now available on the library app BorrowBox.

As part of the initiative, Clare libraries will also host free events and activities for all ages. Events include creative writing, Irish language, comic book making, story times, chess, mindfulness, nature talks and more.
 
Speaking at the launch, Clare County Librarian, Helen Walsh, said, “We want to encourage children to read for pleasure. Establishing good reading habits at an early age will lead to increased vocabulary, knowledge and comprehension as well as generating a life-long love of using the imagination. Strong literacy skills contribute to understanding our world better and opens the door to greater success at school and throughout the life cycle.”
Membership of all public libraries is free for everyone of all ages. There are no fines for overdue books. People can join online or in person.
