Gardaí Day of Action results in several arrests and finds of drugs and ammunition in Clare

Through this operation, a number of under-warrant searches were executed at domestic residences across the area

Gardaí from the Clare Community Engagement area, along with members from the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit, Crime Functional area and other units, conducted a Day of Action in Ennis on Wednesday, June 11.

This Day of Action was also supported by personnel from the Road Safety Authority, Customs, Revenue and the Department of Social Protection.

Through this operation, a number of under-warrant searches were executed at domestic residences across the area, along with roadside searches, multi-agency checkpoints and arrests for bench warrants.

The Day of Action resulted in the following finds: 

• Suspected cannabis to the value of over €2,400 recovered along with €1,300 in cash at a domestic residence.
• A quantity of ammunition was found during a search at a separate domestic residence.
• Seven vehicles seized for various offences, including dangerous driving, driving without tax or insurance and driving while unaccompanied as a learner.
• One driver was arrested and conveyed to Ennis Garda Station for failing a roadside drug test that was positive for cocaine.
• Eight individuals arrested on foot of live bench warrants and conveyed to Ennis District Court.

Speaking on the Day of Action, Inspector Brian O’Connor said, "I wish to compliment the teamwork and professionalism of the Clare Community Engagement, Crime Functional area and Roads Policing members along with our colleagues from external agencies in carrying out this proactive and successful day of action.

"Great time and effort went into making it happen and I am sure that it will have an impact in the locality by restricting criminality including the sale and supply of illegal drugs in the area and give the community confidence that An Garda Síochána are proactively identifying targets and taking action so as to improve the quality of life of those living within the community.

"I further wish to reassure the community that the day of action does not end on the day – An Garda Síochána will be making follow up arrests and further investigations so as to prosecute those involved," he concluded.
