The West Clare Municipal District (MD) are exploring options to improve traffic management and enhance accessibility at the Lahinch promenade.

This news comes following a Notice of Motion submitted by Fine Gael Councillor Bill Slattery, who asked the MD what plans are being considered in attracting buses to stop and park at the Liscannor Road car park from Lahinch.

The West Clare MD has confirmed that to progress this initiative, they will engage with consultants equipped with the necessary software to design appropriate bus turning circles and other essential infrastructure for the car park.

This detailed design process will ensure the facility meets both operational and safety standards, while still optimising space and functionality.

Following the completion of the initial design, the MD will then undertake thorough stakeholder consultation to assess all potential implications, including the impact on existing car parking spaces and overall traffic flow.

Along with this, a review of relevant bylaws will be required to align regulations with the new facility.

In a written reply, Eoin Troy, Senior Executive Officer at the West Clare MD, thanked Cllr Slattery for his motion and stated: "We fully acknowledge the importance of relocating bus traffic from the promenade to the Liscannor Road car park to improve traffic management and enhance accessibility for all road users."
