Gardai investigating an incident in Sixmilebridge which resulted in a young boy being hospitalised with serious injuries have arrested a man, it has been confirmed.
The boy was treated at University Hospital Limerick following an alleged assault which occurred at a premises in the town on the afternoon of October 5, 2023.
While exact details of what happened have not been disclosed publicly, gardai confirmed, at the time, that they had launched an investigation.
The boy's injuries were described as "serious but not life-threatening."
In an update, issued to Clare Live this Tuesday, investigating gardai confirmed that a man was arrested earlier this week.
"Gardaí investigating an alleged assault on a male child that occurred at a premises in Sixmilebridge, County Clare, on Thursday, October 5 2023, arrested a man on Monday, February 19, 2024 as part of this investigation," said a spokesperson at the Garda Press Office.
The man, aged in his 40s, was detained at a garda station in County Clare under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
He has since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Investigations are ongoing.
