RESULT: Voters in Clare overwhelmingly reject Care referendum

Voters in Clare have rejected the Care referendum

Voters in Clare have voted by an overwhelming majority to defeat the proposed amendment to the Constitution in the Care referendum.

According to the official result, announced this Saturday evening, the turnout in Clare on Friday was 44.01% with 39,654 people going to the polls out of a total electorate of 90,101.

Almost three quarters (74.1%) of those who voted in Clare voted No in the Care referendum- significantly more than the number who voted No in the Family referendum.

The counting of votes for the Clare constituency began at 9am in Hotel Woodstock in Ennis and concluded shortly after 6pm.

Yes: 10,131 (25.9%)
No: 28,979 (74.1%)
