There has been a worrying increase in serious assaults in Clare in the past year, with an 81% increase in the number of assaults causing harm reported in the county.
That's according to the latest figures from an Garda Síochana, which were presented at a meeting of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee this Monday, May 27.
Between January and April 2024, 29 incidents of assault causing serios harm were recorded in Clare, up significantly from the same period of 2023, which saw 16 such incidents recorded.

There has also been a serious increase in the number of burglaries recorded in county Clare, with 77 incidents reported since the beginning of this year.
This is a 31% increase from the same period in 2023.
Thefts from shops have also increased by 4% from 139 in January-April 2023 to 144 in January-April 2024, however all other types of thefts, including thefts from vehicles, have seen a marked decrease.
The figures shared at Monday's JPC, which brought together members of an Garda Síochana, local councillors and TDs and communty representatives, are based on operational data from the Garda Pulse system up to May 1, 2024.
