Clare County Council have officially welcomed the new Shannon Airport Oireachtas Group, confirming they are committed to engaging with the newly formed cross-party advocacy coalition.
In a Notice of Motion, Fianna Fáil councillor David Griffin asked the council to support the recently established group, along with requesting that they actively engage with them and senior airport management. This is to ensure that Shannon, and the wider Midwest region, benefit from the growth in the aviation sector in years to come.
Seán Lenihan, A/Director of Economic Development, said in a written reply: "As always, Clare County Council welcomes any opportunity to support initiatives aimed at strengthening the role of Shannon Airport as a key driver of economic and regional development in the Midwest."

Going on to welcome the new group, Mr Lenihan said the council "look forward to supporting the valuable work it will undertake in promoting the strategic interests of Shannon Airport and the Midwest region."
Clare County Council are ready to engage with the Shannon Airport Oireachtas Group and are keen to continue the already established good relationship with both the senior airport management and wider Shannon Group.
Mr Lenihan continued: "Clare County Council looks forward to playing a constructive role in supporting all stakeholders working towards a sustainable and prosperous future for Shannon Airport and the communities its serves.
"We will continue to advocate for policy support and infrastructure investment to ensure that the benefits of future growth in the aviation sector are maximised for Shannon and the broader Midwest region," he concluded.
