Independent TD for Clare Violet-Anne Wynne has told the Dáil that "the vast majority of the public could care less" about who is Taoiseach.
Deputy Wynne made her comments ahead of the election of Simon Harris as Taoiseach this Tuesday, April 9.
Addressing the Dáil chamber before the vote, she stated "the vast majority of the public watching today could care less about who sits in that chair, so long as they get the services and supports that they need."
"They need recognition of the hardship that they have suffered because that and what they need has not being delivered," she continued.
Deputy Wynne called for housing to be recognised as a human right for all, legislation "for the right to personal assistance hours and a centralised system", and a commitment from the government for the reinstatement of the emergency department at Ennis Hospital.

"We needed a ban on no fault evictions yesterday, that was not a big ask, especially considering we are an outlier in Europe on this matter," she also stated.
Deputy Wynne opened her comments by wishing the incoming Taoiseach, who at 37 is the youngest in the history of the State, but later questioned whether Mr Harris would be able to prioritise the best interests of the public and integrity in politics, as "a new Taoiseach with time constraints and with a job of work to do in rebuilding their own party."
"The point that I fear that is long lost on Government is the absolute importance and necessity for the public to be able to trust the Government, trust the politicians and by extension Government agencies," she said.
"The public want delivery. Not an intent to deliver, not promises to deliver that are broken time and time again. They need delivery now that is real."
