Kilrush is the hub for Heritage Week celebrations in Clare this year, with events of all kinds for all ages taking place every day from August 16-24.
Under the banner of ‘Kilrush Heritage Quarter,’ community groups and small businesses have come together to create an exciting programme, with events taking place throughout the town and beyond to Scattery Island.
Highlights include music from Peadar McMahon and Keith Donald of the Moving Hearts; a hands-on pottery workshop with local archaeology consultants AMS, a magazine-making session at Vandeleur visitor centre that is open to all ages; traditional music sessions and an Irish Language singing circle and a traditional skills demonstrations both on Scattery Island and at the Thursday farmer’s market.
Also, there will be a host of heritage talks and tours, including an evening with Joe Whelan and Joe Queally at the Museum of Irish Rural Life, giving people a chance to visit Mrs Crotty’s Kitchen and parlour to see the renovations being carried out on this iconic building.

Supported by Kilrush and District Historical Society and by Clare County Council, 'Kilrush Heritage Quarter' began as a pilot project in 2024 with a programme over just three days.
After becoming a huge success, the decision was made this year to expand it from a three day programme to nine days as many more groups and businesses wanted to get involved.
Collaborating in this way makes it possible to truly showcase the rich history and community spirit of this designated Heritage Town.
Almost all of the events are free of charge and full details can be found on the events calendar at www.kilrush.ie or on the 'Kilrush Heritage Quarter' Facebook page.
