Clare County Council raised the Pride flag at the local authority’s headquarters at Áras Contae an Chláir, Ennis this Thursday afternoon (September 19, 2024.) ahead of Clare’s Pride weekend, organised by Quare Clare.
The flag highlights the local authority’s commitment to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community in the council and across the county.
Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Cllr Alan O’Callaghan, said it was important that Clare County Council "not only fosters a work environment of inclusivity and support, but also publicly acknowledges that Clare is a county of acceptance and support to people of all genders and sexual orientation".
"We want to send a message that the council is here to represent and support all sectors of society in our county, not just this weekend but for all 52 weeks of the year."
Wishing Quare Clare a successful weekend of events, Deirdre Power, Equality Officer, Clare County Council, added that in raising the Pride flag, Clare County Council "embraces equality and inclusivity for all our colleagues, friends and the wider community."
"The council’s working group for our Public Sector Duty for Equality and Human Rights is organising an awareness and training programme for our employees in collaboration with Conscious Connections. This aims to promote inclusivity throughout our services and workplaces," she said.
Clare Pride Weekend takes place this weekend, September 20 to 23, beginning with a Culture Night evening of queer poetry at glór, supported by Clare County Council.
