Inaugural Charlotte Brontë’s Kilkee Honeymoon Festival takes place this weekend
THE inaugural Charlotte Brontë’s Kilkee Honeymoon Festival takes place in the the west Clare this weekend.
The festival, which takes place on Friday and Saturday, will be officially opened by the Labour Party Leader Dr Ivana Bacik TD who has kindly.
Charlotte Bronte is a famous nineteenth-century English novelist whose books such as Jane Eyre are still popular.
Following her marriage to Arthur Bell Nicholls in June, she and her husband travelled to Ireland and to Kilkee where they spent the greater part of their honeymoon. Tragically, she died eight months later in March 1855.
Organised by Kilkee Civic Trust, the festival will feature a number of presentations from Dr Michael O’Dowd, Mr. James Scully and Joanne Wilcock.
The talks will be complemented by a heritage walk titled: Walking in the footsteps of Charlotte and Arthur which will be led by renowned local historian John Williams.
There will be also be a Brontë-themed musical presentation on Saturday afternoon by Killaloe-based singers The Gúnas.
Entrance to the various events is free but people are advised to attend early.
