ALERT: Met Éireann warns of spot flooding as weather alerts are issued for two counties

Met Éireann has issued status yellow rain and wind warnings for Dublin and Wicklow ahead of the arrival of a low pressure weather system, later this Thursday

Met Éireann is warning of potential spot flooding and traffic disruption in two counties due to expected heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The forecaster has issued status yellow rain and wind warnings for Dublin and Wicklow ahead of the arrival of a low pressure weather system, later this Thursday.

"Rain, heavy at times, coupled with gusty winds, strongest near the coasts and on higher ground," states the warning which is due to come into effect in both counties at 12 midday.

Potential impacts, it adds, include spot flooding, traffic delays and/or disruption.

In its latest forecast, Met Éireann says it will be "very wet and cloudy" in most places this Thursday morning with bands of rain becoming widespread and heavy at times too. Northerly winds will be fresh to strong and gusty at times with highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.

It says the heavy and persistent rain will gradually clear southwards through the evening but that it will remain rather cloudy.

Looking ahead, it says there will be a mix of weather across Ireland over the next few days and that it will be "quite cold too for this time of year".
