New data from Met Eireann shows mean air temperatures recorded at its weather station in Shannon Airport during August were slightly below the long-term Average.
The national forecaster says the mean temperature recorded at Shannon Airport last month was 15.8° - 0.3° lower than its LTA, which is based on figures between 1981 and 2010.
The highest mean temperature of 18.1° was recorded on August 1 while the lowest temperature of 13.6° was recorded on August 24.

According to its monthly Climate Statement, the number of hours of sunshine (156.8) recorded at Shannon Airport during August was 111% above its LTA and the fourth highest recorded anywhere in the country. This is the equivalent of 5.06 hours per day during the month.
When it comes to rainfall, the weather station at Shannon Airport recorded 67.3mm of rainfall during August - 82% of the LTA and considerably lower than the overall average of 117mm for the month.
The wettest day was August 22 - during which almost 15mm of rainfall was recorded at the weather station at Shannon Airport.
Based on provisional data, Met Éireann says the average temperature in Ireland during August was 15.47°C, which is 0.20 °C above the most recent 1991-2020 long-term average.
August 2024 was ranked the 35th warmest in the 125 year dataset and the coldest since August 2018.
Provisional gridded rainfall data for Ireland suggests August 2024 saw 114% (117 mm) of its average rainfall for the month.
