Alert: Met Éireann warns of hazardous travelling conditions in Clare due to dense fog

Latest warning issued by forecaster as cold snap hits

MET Éireann is warning that dense and widespread fog is likely to result in hazardous travel conditions in Clare and across the country over the coming days.

The national forecaster, which issued a cold weather advisory on Saturday, has now issued a status yellow fog warning for Ireland.

The warning, issued this Sunday morning, is valid from 6pm this Sunday to 10am on Monday.

Motorists in Clare and across the country are being urged to exercise caution if driving in foggy conditions.

"Areas of fog will become dense and widespread this (Sunday) evening and linger until Monday morning. The fog will clear eastern and southern counties early Monday morning," states the warning.

According to the latest Met Éireann forecast, it will be very cold this Sunday night with frost and icy patches. Lowest temperatures will range from -3 to 0 degrees with light variable or easterly breezes.

With schools returning on Monday morning, motorists are being urged to allow additional time as traffic levels are likely to be higher then they have been for the last number of weeks.
