ONE of Limerick’s best-known butchers is celebrating another win from a prestigious European competition.
O’Connells Butchers on Little Catherine Street were crowned double gold world champions earlier this year. Beating off competition from some 1,000 rivals, the local Limerick butchers came away with two Gold World Awards.
O’Connell’s Butchers has a proud history of winning international competitions and in September 2022 following their earlier win in Germany for their smoked pork belly & honey roast ham, the team at O'Connells travelled to France and won a further two gold medals at the prestigious Commanderie des Fins Goustiers du Duché d'Alençon and were awarded the Grand Prix d'Excellence, one for their Christmas ham and another for their spiced beef.
The double win has boosted the energy in the run up to Christmas, which is the busiest time of the year as people rush to order their turkey and ham ahead of the Christmas period.
