Clare farm with stables and sulky track seized by CAB fetches six-figure sum at auction

A farmhouse in County Clare complete with 20 stables, a barn and its own sulky race track has sold at auction after being seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB).

An Clare farmhouse complete with 20 stables, a barn and its own sulky race track has sold at auction after being seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB).

The two-bedroom cottage, based at Kealderry near Bodyke in Clare, sits on almost 18 acres of land with sweeping views of the Slieve Aughty mountains.

Auctioneers described it as in need of refurbishment but praised the mature boundaries, tree-lined avenue and "magnificent unspoilt views of the Clare countryside."

According to RTÉ, the property went under the hammer at Wilsons Auctions last week for around the asking price of €175,000.

The holding includes a large yard, four-span barn and equestrian facilities, with the land laid out in manageable paddocks and featuring a circular gallop that was previously used as a sulky racing track.

The site came under CAB control last year following a High Court ruling. It had previously been owned by William McInerney, whom the Bureau has linked to organised crime in the region. CAB has sold several such seized properties, with proceeds from the sale now returning to the State coffers.
