Aoibheann MacNamara meets presenter and architect Hugh Wallace at the Old Herdsman’s Cottage in the middle of Burren - Watch the Great House Revival on RTÉ One at 9.30pm this Sunday
A project to restore a Former Land Commission cottage in the middle of the Burren will feature in the second episode of the latest series of The Great House Revival on RTÉ television this Sunday.
During the episode, presenter and architect Hugh Wallace will meet busy restaurateur Aoibheann MacNamara who has waited years to find the perfect isolated cottage.
The Old Herdsman’s Cottage is the property she has been looking for and she is embarking on an ambitious but sensitive restoration of the home which is located in the middle of the protected environment of the Burren landscape.

With so many planning and environmental restrictions during the restoration, Aoibheann has time to set up a full kitchen garden to service her restaurant in Galway city, as well as tenants Crunchie and Phoebe, two miniature ponies.
During the episode, viewers will see that Aoibheann has a very clear vision in mind for her Burren retreat. She has ambitions of creating an exceptional design that will belie the walls of the traditional cottage. However, as her vision for the retreat spirals out of control, it inhibits her from making any decisions on her build, slowing down all work on-site.
Viewers will see her receive input and advice from local builder, John Cannole, a no-nonsense, true blue banner-county man. Will he bring her back to earth, and get the renovation back on track?
Watch the Great House Revival on RTÉ One and on the RTÉ Player at 9.30pm this Sunday, February 16
