The proposed expansion will see the addition of 35 new rooms at Treacy’s Oakwood Hotel in Shannon
An appeal has been lodged against the decision of the local authority to grant permission for a major expansion of Treacy’s Oakwood Hotel in Shannon.
The proposed expansion will see the second floor of the hotel being extended to accommodate 29 additional bedrooms while a further six rooms will be added on the first floor.
In making the application on behalf of Shannon Estuary Hotel Limited, O’Leary Sludds Architects stated that the proposed expansion is required as it will enable to hotel to accommodate coach tours of up to 50 people.

The development, which was approved by Clare County Council in mid-January, will also see the number of car parking spaces increase to 208, with 50 being specifically allocated for electric vehicles.
According to planning documents, seven conditions were imposed on the applicant as a condition of planning including the up-front payment of a Special Development Contribution of €40,000.
This money, the local authority says, will be used to fund the upgrade of part of the L7178 local road which runs adjacent to the hotel.
An Bord Pleanála has now confirmed that a number of appeals have been submitted, including one from the applicant, arising from the council's decision.
A decision on the appeals is expected by the summer.
