An Bord Pleanála has granted approval for a new housing development on the outskirts of Doonbeg in west Clare.
Clare County Council is proposing to build eight new homes at a site which is adjacent to the existing Dún na Mara housing estate just off the N67 Kilkee Road.
The development will comprise two three-bedroom, two storey semi-detached homes; three two-bedroom, two-storey semi-detached and three two-bedroom single storey semi-detached homes.
In a detailed report, planning inspector Brendan Coyne noted the lands earmarked for the development comprises overgrown grassland with some wild shrubs around the edges.
As part of the planning process, the local authority issued prescribed notices to a number of organisations and agencies including The Heritage Council, Inland Fisheries Ireland, Irish Water, NPWS, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Waterways Ireland, An Taisce, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, The Department of Environment, Climate and
Communications, Fáilte Ireland and the Arts Council.

No formal objections were received and, in his report, Mr Coyne states: "It is my view that the scale and residential nature of the proposed development is consistent with the zoning objective and is appropriate to the character and pattern of
development in the immediate area."
He added that he proposed development represents an "appropriate use of an undeveloped greenfield infill site situated within the settlement boundary of Doonbeg."
Having considered the inspector's report and various reports prepared as part of the planning process, the Board formally approved the proposal, subject to compliance with 12 conditions including that the parking spaces within the development are only used by those living in the houses.
