Paul Mescal poses with Gracie Abrams at Paul McCartney documentary screening

Paul Mescal made a rare public appearance with his girlfriend Gracie Abrams at the screening of a new documentary about Sir Paul McCartney.

The Irish actor, most famous for roles in Normal People and Hamnet, will play the Beatle in the upcoming series of films about the Fab Four.

He cuddled up to his musician girlfriend, the daughter of Star Wars director JJ Abrams, at the screening of Man On The Run at the Ham Yard Hotel in London.

The pair were both dressed down for the occasion in dark coats and baseball caps but smiled cheerfully for the cameras.

Mescal is currently filming The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, with each film told from the perspective of one band member.

The films star Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.

Sir Paul appeared to give his seal of approval to the casting of Mescal by posing with him and Abrams.

The documentary screening was also attended by Sir Paul’s fashion designer daughter Stella, musician Marcus Mumford, Oasis star Noel Gallagher and model Twiggy.

Also in attendance was Cruz Beckham, the son of Sir David and Lady Victoria Beckham, with his girlfriend Jackie Apostel, as well as musician Paul Weller, and Sharon Osbourne, the widow of rock star Ozzy Osbourne.

The documentary follows Sir Paul’s life following the break-up of The Beatles and the formation of Wings with his wife Linda.

Directed by Morgan Neville, it chronicles his solo career through previously unseen footage and rare archival materials.

Man On The Run will launch globally on Prime Video on February 27.
