BREAKING: Hurling legend DJ Carey pleads guilty, admits deception

Kilkenny hurling legend DJ Carey has pleaded guilty to 10 counts of fraud, including falsely claiming to have cancer to obtain money from people.

At a hearing in November 2023, Mr Carey had indicated he would plead not guilty. The trial, due to begin today, was expected to last three to four weeks.

However, the multiple All-Ireland winner has now dramatically changed tack and has appeared this morning in court to plead guilty to all charges put to him.

He has indicated he has genuine health issues and medical reports will be submitted. He will appear for sentencing in October.
