An elderly man who sustained serious injuries in a road crash just over two weeks ago has died, gardai have confirmed.
Investigations are continuing and gardai have renewed their appeal for witnesses to the fatal incident which happened on the N5 Castlebar to Turlough road in County Mayo on December 29, 2024
"The collision occurred at approximately 4pm and involved a car and a van. The driver of one of the vehicles, a man aged in his 90s, was taken to Mayo University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. He has since passed away from these injuries," said a spokesperson.
The driver of the second vehicle, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to Mayo University Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An examination of the scene was conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators at the time and gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
They are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling on the N5 at the above time, to make this footage available to gardaí.
