Sam Keeley will play a new love interest for Shiv in The Dry

Offaly actor Sam Keeley has revealed he had to go back to school to learn to make coffee before he started filming his latest series, The Dry.

But it wasn't any ordinary school, it was a barista school!

The drama, The Dry, returns for a second season on Wednesday night on RTE One at 9:35pm, and stars Ciaran Hinds.

Sam has joined the cast as the possible new love interest for Shiv, played by Roisin Gallagher, who is a recovering alcoholic.

However, Sam revealed he had no idea how to make coffee properly and was sent on a one day course to Cloud Picker in Dublin to learn the basics.

“I know a little bit. I grind my own beans. I have a V60 filter that I travel with. I know the very entry level requirements of coffee. They sent me to Cloud Picker in Dublin to do a barista course for this, which was class. It was lovely to be in there. They looked after me really well," he told the Irish Mirror.

“They sent me to Cloud Picker for the day to learn how to kind of heat the milk properly and to learn how to work the machine properly.”

He said his new skills came in handy, as he was able to make coffee for most of the cast and crew of the series.

“I ended up just serving the crew, to be honest, like, you know, between shots I was like, making coffee gives good practice for me to be able to make it but also… Yeah, yeah, I ended up just kind of being the on set kind coffee maker that day. But no, I don't have the skills necessary to actually serve people,” he said.

The actor recently lit up screens as Viking in the popular Kin. He also starred in a previous RTÉ drama Raw with Charleen McKenna.
