The mum of Kelly Lynch, whose body was recovered in the Ulster Canal in Monaghan in March, has raised concerns about the Garda investigation into her daughter’s death.

Kelly Lynch’s body was recovered from the Ulster Canal in Monaghan on St Patrick's Day, March 17. The 23-year-old was originally from Gilford in Co Armagh.

Kelly's mum, Julieanne, raised concerns over the investigation into her daughter's death.

"I will not stop pressing for answers. I will not stop speaking out. I will not sit back and accept the narrative of others. Kelly was only 23 years old. She should have had more time on this earth. We shouldn’t have to refer to her in past tense. This is beyond cruel," said Ms Lynch on social media earlier today.

In a previous post, Ms Lynch said she had not been made aware that a State Pathologist performed her daughter's port-mortem.

"An Garda Siochana perhaps there is a breakdown in communication between your Cavan Monaghan Garda Division and the Press Office in Dublin, but this is the first time that we as a family have heard that the State Pathologist performed my daughter’s postmortem.

"Considering we were told that it was a local pathologist within the hospital in Navan. Surely by now, over 5 weeks since my daughter’s body was found in Monaghan, facts like these should be relayed to us via our Family Liaison Officer? Because as your statement says, we’ve been informed, I can categorically confirm that such information has not been relayed to us. In fact, the whole process from the moment Kelly was found until now has been greatly mishandled. So many procedures failed. So many discrepancies in what we know. Not to mention the extensive list of failures," she claimed.
"How many more times are we to be failed? Perhaps you see me as just an angry, grieving and vulnerable mother. But I can assure you, I am much more and I will not stop until my daughter’s case receives the proper attention and resources that a suspicious death requires. Regardless of everything we have heard. Kelly’s death is suspicious and if I have to make public, and outline each and every failure, I will," stated Kelly's mother on social media.

In response to a query, a spokesperson for the gardai said that the preparation of an inquest file was ongoing.

"A Family Liaison Officer was appointed at the outset of this investigation and this information has been relayed to the family of the deceased. As the preparation of the Inquest file is ongoing, no further comment is available at this time," they said.

An Garda Siochana said that a post-mortem investigation in relation to the death of a woman in Monaghan town on March 17 was carried out following the discovery of a body.

"A post-mortem was completed by the State Pathologist. As a result of the preliminary findings and consultation with the State Pathologist, the focus of this investigation moved towards the completion of an inquest file for the coroner," they said.
