THERE is sadness and mourning around Thurles after the death of the much loved Christy Shortt who passed away at the weekend.
The 92-year-old passed away surrounded by his loving family and was said to have fought a “short and bravely borne illness” according to RIP.ie.
His son Pat, the well known comedian, actor and celebrity, led the tributes to his beloved father on Twitter this evening: “My Beautiful Dad passed away this weekend. He was an amazing musician and great craic. He will be deeply missed by all.”

Pat’s daughter, Faye, is a well known comedian and she shared a tribute to her late grandfather.
The funeral is on this Wednesday evening, reposing at Hugh Ryan's Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles (E41 CP59), from 5pm to 7pm.
Arriving at the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles, on Thursday 31st August at 10.30am for Requiem Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in St Patrick's Cemetery, Thurles. Full details are on RIP.ie. May he rest in peace.
