Garda assaulted during arrest for dangerous driving taken to hospital with serious injuries

A member of An Garda Síochána has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being assaulted during an arrest. 

A man in his 30s reportedly assaulted the officer during the course of an arrest for dangerous driving at Gulliver's Retail Park in Ballymun this morning (Saturday January 21, 2023) at approximately 11.30am. 

He was subsequently arrested and brought to Ballymun Garda station where he is currently detained. 

The injured Garda was taken to James Connolly Hospital to be treated for injuries understood to be serious but not-life threatening. 

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. 

Any road users who were in the area at between 10.30am and noon today who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
