A spacefinder app, similar to the one used by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is to be rolled out in Ennis
A new system to provide real-time information on the location and availability of accessible parking spaces in Ennis will be launched in the coming months, it has been confirmed.
A number of local authorities around the country have rolled out such initiatives having partnered with technology companies such as the Limerick-based Parkmagic.
Responding to a question submitted by Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy, Paddy Tiernan, acting senior executive engineer at Clare County Council said he expects such a project to be launched in Ennis before the summer.
"A successful funding application for a technological solution was previously made to the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Community Recognition Fund. Subsequently, Ennis MD procured a supplier to install and maintain parking sensors within accessible spaces," he said in a written reply circulated at the monthly meeting of Ennis Municipal District.

Typically, each accessible parking spot is equipped with a sensor which then, via a smartphone app, notifies blue badge users whether the space is free or occupied, eliminating the frustration of them having to search for available parking spaces.
In the case of the planned Ennis system, Mr Tiernan confirmed the real-time data will be provided to users via the Parkmagic App.
