More than 750 speeding detections made across the country during 24-hour operation
More than 750 vehicles were caught speeding across the country during National Slow Down Day, gardai have revealed.
The 24-hour operation concluded at 7am this Saturday and gardai have highlighted some of the detections which were made, including in County Clare.
"An Garda Síochána and GoSafe recorded 755 detections for speeding during National Slow Down Day. During the 24 hours, GoSafe checked the speeds of 163,146 vehicles, and detected 225 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit. During the same timeframe, gardaí conducting high-visibility speed checks across the country intercepted 530 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit," said a spokesperson.
One detection in County Clare related to a vehicle which was travelling at 115km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N18 at Clonmoney West, Bunratty.
The highest speed recorded during National Slow Down Day involved a vehicle which was travelling at 194km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N25 at Loughaderry, Castlemartyr in Co. Cork.

"The aim of National Slow Down Day, which is supported by the Road Safety Authority, is to promote safer driving practices among motorists and to encourage all of society to work with us to help prevent road traffic collisions and to ultimately keep communities safe," said a spokesperson.
An Garda Síochána says it is continuing to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, reduce injuries and save lives.
