An uninsured motorist who failed a roadside drugs test after they were stopped by members of the Clare Roads Policing Unit is facing prosecution, gardai have confirmed.
In a post on social media highlighting the incident, gardai say a maroon-coloured Ford Focus was stopped after they received an alert via the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system.
"The insurance database revealed that the policy had been cancelled. Consequently, the car was seized," reads the post.
According to gardai, the driver then failed a roadside drugs test and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drug-driving.
It has been confirmed that the motorist is now facing prosecution and that court proceedings will follow.
Exact details of when and where the detection was made have not been disclosed publicly.
