Gardai have highlighted the detection on social media
An uninsured motorist who tested positive for cannabis after he was stopped by gardai in Clare is facing prosecution before the courts, it has been confirmed.
The detection was made earlier this week by members of the Clare Roads Policing Unit who were on routine patrol when they encountered a silver Audi car - the exact location has not been publicly disclosed.
After being alerted to the absence of insurance, the car was stopped by gardai and a roadside drugs test administered.
In a post on social media highlighting the incident, a garda spokesperson said: "Our new insurance database access continues to help us get uninsured drivers off the road. This week our Roads Policing unit stopped this driver who had recently bought the car but no (sic) insurance to go with it. The driver also failed a roadside drugs test for cannabis."
