A number of motorists were caught speeding in Clare since 7am this Monday
GARDAI have made several detections for speeding at locations across Clare and Limerick during the first few hours of a special 24-hour operation.
The detections were made as part of Operation Slow Down which began at 7am and continues until 7am on Tuesday.
Supported by the Road Safety Authority, the aim of National Slow Down Day is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, increase compliance with speed limits and act as a deterrent to driving at excessive or inappropriate speed.
According to an update, released this Monday lunchtime, there have been a number of notable speeding detections across the country, including in Clare and Limerick.
They include a motorist travelling at 139km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M18 at Ballyline, Crusheen County Clare and a motorist travelling at 108km/h in a 80km/h zone on the R513 at Herbertstown, County Limerick. Another detection, which has been highlighted by gardai, was a motorist caught travelling at 130km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N21 at Dooneen, Castleisland close to the Kerry/Limerick border.
An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on the roads.
So far this year, almost 130 people have died in Irish roads - an increase of 25% compared to the same period in 2022.
