ALERT: Musicians in Clare for Willie Clancy festival hit with theft warning

Clare gardaí have issued advice to musicians in the county this week for the Willie Clancy Festival.

The festival got underway last weekend and runs through this weekend with the good weather likely to draw big crowds.

Gardaí have issued advice to those attending the event in relation to keeping their musical instruments safe from thieves.

"Besides protecting the musical instruments from weather conditions, dust, dirt, and insects, it is also important to safeguard them from a theft standpoint," a statement read.

With this in mind, they advised:

• Please never leave your instrument unattended in the car, if you are taking a number of instruments into a venue from your vehicle, ask one person to remain with your car and the instruments during this time. If you are leaving your instruments during the day in your car, please place them out of sight and ensure that your vehicle is locked.

• Consider using simple pad locks to seal cases. Clearly label your instrument case with your contact information, this will deter theft and if you misplace your instrument, it can be easily identified.

• During Performances: Ensure instruments are supervised or locked away when not in use during performances or rehearsals.

• Serial Numbers: Keep a record of serial numbers, model numbers, and other identifying information for each instrument

• Photos: Take clear photos of your instruments, including any unique markings or damage.
