The works involve the replacement of over one kilometre of aged watermains that are prone to bursts
Residents of Sixmilebridge will soon benefit from a more secure and reliable water supply as Uisce Éireann are set to begin works this week to reduce the high levels of leakage in the area.
The works will take place along the R471 Cloonlara Road in Sixmilebridge and involve the replacement of over one kilometre of aged watermains prone to bursts as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, is looking forward to getting this important project underway for the community in Sixmilebridge.
He said, “Replacing these old and damaged pipes will significantly lower the instances of bursts and outages on the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground. The works will also improve the operation of the network by reducing the need for frequent repairs to aged watermains, resulting in a positive impact on leakage and the daily lives of Sixmilebridge residents. We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works.”

To safely and efficiently deliver the project, traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop/go system. A road closure will also be required on the R471 Cloonlara Road. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann and the project is expected to be complete in July.
Identifying and repairing these leaks will help Uisce Éireann to achieve their 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The national leakage reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%. .
Uisce Éireann has also launched a free text service, providing real-time updates for local issues. Customers can sign up with their Eircode and mobile number at the Text Updates page.
