Clare-based woman launches new equine coaching business to empower clients and build resilience

Majella is trained to deliver sessions that are fun and interactive but also emotionally safe and supportive, designed with accessibility in mind

Cloonlara-based woman Majella Moloney is a lifelong horse enthusiast and experienced special needs assistant who has launched 'SJ Equimotional Accredited Coaching' – an innovative equine-assisted coaching business that’s changing the way emotional wellbeing is supported in the local community.

Blending her deep love for horses with her qualifications in special education and trauma-informed emotional coaching, Majella offers equine-assisted learning and equine-assisted activities at her stables on the Broadford Road (V94 T2HF) alongside wellbeing sessions for children, teens and adults across Clare, Limerick and the broader areas of Munster.

What makes SJ Equimotional unique is its dedicated focus on individuals with additional needs, as well as those navigating mental health challenges, grief or trauma. Using equine-assisted learning, which is a proven hands-on approach, helps build confidence, emotional regulation, communication and resilience, with riding available as an option, but never a requirement.

Participants can expect to engage in activities such as horse grooming and care, leading and following exercises and navigating obstacle courses which are all designed to foster trust, emotional connection and personal growth through meaningful interactions with horses.

Speaking on this, Majella said, “Horses have helped me through some of the most difficult moments of my life.

“Now I want to give that same support to others. Whether a child with autism learning to express themselves or someone struggling with anxiety finding calm in the stable, the results are powerful," she added.

Her newest programme, 'the Young Equestrians Academy', helps children and young people develop life skills through horse care – drawing links between emotional intelligence and horsemanship.

The business also offers:
● 'Own your own pony for a day' – a magical hands-on experience for young horse lovers
● Monthly social clubs – promoting friendship, routine, and social engagement
● School tours and educational visits – interactive, curriculum-linked sessions
● Wellbeing visits to preschools, schools, nursing homes and dementia centres
● Birthday parties – memorable, inclusive celebrations for children of all needs

As a certified equimotional wellbeing coach, Majella is trained to deliver sessions that are not just fun and interactive but also emotionally safe and supportive, designed with accessibility in mind.
