The bus service will be free and will be called the Burren and Cliffs Explorer. It will serve the Cliffs of Moher
Clare County Council has confirmed a free shuttle bus service will be launched in the coming weeks serving a number of key tourism locations in Clare.
At a West Clare Municipal District Meeting, Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy welcomed the "potentially transformative initiative" which will see the shuttle bus serving the Burren and Cliffs of Moher.
Cllr Garrihy called on Clare Tourism, Clare County Council and Failte Ireland to "set a clear plan and partnership" with host communities, towns and villages which the shuttle bus will visit and where it will have bases.
In a written reply to the motion, Siobhán McNulty, Director of Service, Tourism Development, said: "Clare County Council working in partnership with the National parks and Wildlife Service, will deliver a sustainable transport solution on a pilot basis in North Clare serving tourists and host communities, expected to commence May 1."
She said the pilot service will run until August 31, "with the potential to extend to September."

The bus service will be free and will be called the Burren and Cliffs Explorer, driving footfall to towns, villages and key attractions in the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark including Corofin, Carran, Kilfenora, Lisdoonvarna, Doolin, Liscannor, Lahinch and Miltown Malbay - a gateway to West and North Clare.
It is proposed that hubs with facilities including free parking will be located at Lisdoonvarna and at Miltown Malbay.
Ms McNulty continued: "A process of engagement on information and consultation with timetables will take place with the
public in host communities in March and April, this will inform the service and help shape the experience development on board the coaches.
"An onboard visitor experience plan will be developed to include in person welcome and supported by video. An extensive marketing plan is being actively worked on to promote the service, assets of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Experiences as well as the unique attributes of each of the towns and villages to ensure there is maximum economic benefit." she concluded.
