Clare County Council has confirmed it has received a number of complaints regarding poor foul smells in the vicinity of the Uisce Eireann Waste Water Treatment Plant at Clare Abbey.
However, it says no evidence was found to substantiate the reports following investigation.
The information came to light in a written reply to a motion which was submitted by Cllr Paul Murphy ahead of the February meeting of the Ennis Municipal District.
"I am requesting that the Ennis Municipal Members are provided with all data collated in relation to any reportings of poor odour/smells that have been reported by members of the public, or management of this recently upgraded facility," stated the motion.

In his reply, Cyril Feeney, Senior Engineer, confirmed the Environment section of Clare County Council has received 2 complaints - one in December 2023 and one in and September 2024 - regarding possible odour issues at the facility.
"The first complainant was advised to contact Uisce Éireann directly. The second complaint, which related to both water pollution and odour, was investigated but no evidence of pollution or mal odour was detected on site," he wrote.
Mr Feeney, added: "It is not possible to determine the exact course of any future action until the exact nature of the complaint is known. However all complaints will be followed up on as required."
