New programme of free and subsidised upskilling courses up for grabs at TUS Midwest

Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has been awarded €2 million worth of subsidised places on programmes specifically designed to meet industry skills needs across the Midwest region.

The 1,000 places are available through HCI and Springboard+ initiatives, providing upskilling and reskilling places on programmes that are subsidised between 90% to 100%.

Speaking about the announcement, TUS Dean of Flexible and Work-based Learning Seamus Hoyne said, “TUS prides itself on delivering upskilling and reskilling opportunities to individuals that meet our regional industry demand. Our programmes have been developed to ensure a pipeline of talent in emerging and growth areas in our region”

“This year we have a range of programmes on offer across multiple sectors. Some of our programmes are focused on established industries such as Pharma, Medical Devices and Aviation; while others respond to emerging areas of importance such as Sustainability in Construction, Film, Autonomous Vehicles and Offshore Renewable Energy. With a range of programmes also available in the field of Business, including Digital Marketing, Leadership and Health & Wellbeing” commented Dr. Órlaith Borthwick, Head of Department of Flexible Learning.

TUS programmes are designed and delivered to ensure they are accessible to those in employment; delivered online with weekly workload commitments that seek to allow people a manageable work life balance.

The suite of programmes available range from Micro-credentials that can be completed in a number of weeks, to Postgraduate Diploma’s that are gained over one and a half years. The funded programmes are appealing to those who come from all different levels of previous education; with programmes on offer ranging from Level 6 through to Level 9.

Dr. Borthwick noted that, “Our programmes are ideal for people looking for their next career move and want to either reskill or upskill to secure their future employment opportunities. All programmes are now open for applications, with limited number of places available on each programme”.

Springboard+, HCI Pillar 1 and HCI Pillar 3 Micro-Credentials are co-funded by the Government of Ireland, via the National Training Fund, and the European Union.
