A multi-agency initiative to raise awareness about Female Genital Mutilation in Ireland is taking place at Shannon Airport this Friday.

An Garda Síochána, in collaboration with AkiDwa, are hosting Operation Limelight ahead of what is expected to be a busy weekend at the airport as the Easter holidays come to an end.

"This multi-agency initiative, organised by the National Child Protection Unit at the Garda National Protective Services Bureau, aims to raise awareness about Female Genital Mutilation in Ireland. The event will highlight the legal implications and the significant health risks faced by women and girls subjected to this practice," said a garda spokesperson.
