Gardai in Ennis are investigating | FILE PHOTO
Witnesses are being sought following an early-morning assault that happened outside a large primary school in Ennis.
According to gardai, a male, aged in his 40s, was injured during the incident which happened close to Ennis National School at Kilrush Road in the town.
In response to a query from Clare Live, the Garda Press Office confirmed that the assault took place on the "road outside the school" at around 8.50am on Friday, February 2 - just before the bank holiday weekend.
The incident, which is being investigated, occurred during the busy drop-off time and it's understood a number of children and parents were in the general area at the time and may have seen what happened.
It's not known if any of those involved in the incident have a connection to the school.
The primary school, one of the largest in County Clare, currently has around 600 pupils enrolled and employs in the region of 50 teachers and support staff.
Any witnesses to the assault are asked to contact Ennis garda station on 065 6848100 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
While further details of the incident have not been confirmed publicly, it's understood no serious injuries were sustained.
