Sykes House in Kilkee
KILKEE Civic Trust's latest talk will focus on a historic house in the town this Wednesday.
The history and development of Kilkee is inextricably linked with Limerick and the many families from there who either owned or regularly rented properties in the town since the 1830s. Sykes House is no exception to this general phenomenon.
This latest Kilkee Civic talk, given by Kieran Woods, will trace the history of the house from its construction in the 1840s to the present day with the predominant focus being on the families who have owned it.
Kieran was born and spent his childhood in Kilkee before his family moved to live in Mayo and subsequently Dublin. He returns to spend time in Kilkee every year and in 2011 on the death of his aunt, Irene Doherty, became co-owner with his brother of Sykes House.
His retirement in recent years has facilitated his keen interest in history (both local and otherwise) and genealogy.
The talk will take place Wednesday evening at 8pm at Cultúrlann Sweeney in Kilkee. Admission to all KCT talks are free of charge, and a donations box is available on the night to assist KCT in defraying essential and necessary expenses.
