Filming for the €22m production is set to begin in January
A MAJOR United States production is set to commence filming in Clare and Limerick, an industry source has confirmed.
Clare Live can exclusively reveal that filming of a €22 million World War II production is set to begin in the city in January and will continue for a number of weeks.
It's understood the film has been written by Todd Komarnicki, who will also direct the movie.
Mr Komarnicki also wrote the screenplay for the Academy Award-nominated film, Sully, which was directed by Hollywood movie mogul Clint Eastwood.
Producers of the film are working with Film in Limerick and the Regional Film Manager to utilise filming locations in Limerick city.
It is believed the city will be transformed into 1940s Germany for filming purposes.
Limerick city isn’t the only part of the country that will benefit from the multi-million shoot as filming will also take place in parts of County Clare as well.
No stranger to World War II movies, Mr Komarnicki has previously penned the 2003 war film Resistance.
Members of the production team are believed to already be in Limerick and are based out of the Engine building on Cecil Street in the city.
For the film production in Limerick, it is believed that 800 crew and extras will be hired, a source has disclosed.
The film shoot is believed to be a major opportunity to showcase Limerick city as a filming destination.
Sully, Mr Komarnicki’s most critically acclaimed film was based on pilot Chesley Sully Sullenberger who landed his damaged plane on the Hudson River in New York City in order to save the flight's passengers and crew.
The film starred two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks as Sully and was nominated for a number of prestigious awards from around the globe.
