PICTURES: RTÉ's Mid-West Correspondent Cathy Halloran celebrates retirement

The former correspondent who covered events in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary has stepped down after 38 years with the national broadcaster

It's the end of an era at RTÉ as the national broadcaster's Mid-West correspondent, Cathy Halloran is officially celebrating her retirement!

Friends, family and former colleagues all gathered at the Savoy Hotel in Limerick recently to celebrate with Cathy as she begins her retirement.

The Dublin native worked with RTÉ News for 38 years, with 31 of those years as the broadcasters correspondent in the Mid-West. 

Ms Halloran began her journalism career in the 1980s with The Farmer Magazine and went on to report for the Connacht Tribune newspaper in Galway.

She joined RTÉ News in October 1987 and was appointed as RTÉ's Mid West Correspondent in 1993.
