Kids at Parteen National School show their support Operation Transformation leader Darragh Fitzgerald
THERE was huge excitement at Parteen National School today as the RTÉ cameras arrived alongside Operation Transformation leader Darragh Fitzgerald to film for this years series of the show.
The visit was made even more special as Darragh's son, Rian (8), attends the national school and was "so proud" of his dad after the visit.
Darragh from Corbally has been described as an "inspiration" by viewers of the show as he shared his battle with cancer from a young age and his passion for rugby at his local club St Mary's.
Pupils at the Parteen school welcomed Darragh as he spoke to the children about healthy eating and chatted to them about healthy breakfasts, lunch and dinner.
Speaking about the visit teacher Judy Meskell said "Darragh is an inspiration to everybody in Parteen NS, especially his wonderful son who is a pupil in Mr. Collins’ Second Class. The entire school community is fully behind Darragh and wish him all the best for continued success on his journey."
The 37-year-old father of two overcame a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma called Burkitts at the age of 16 after having a tumour removed from his bowel.
Only two years ago Darragh was rushed to into hospital for an abnormal heart rhythm. Ever since then he has vowed to get his life on track and thanks to Operation Transformation it has been possible for him.
Operation Transformation airs on RTÉ One television and on the RTÉ Player at 9:35pm on Wednesdays
