THE PROPOSAL to extend a footpath to a junction in one Clare village has been acknowledged by Clare County Council.

Extending the existing footpath on the left hand side of the road as you enter O'Briensbridge from the Killaloe Road, to the junction of the R466 and the R463, as been considered to get underway.

The latest Killaloe Municipal District (MD) council meeting saw senior executive engineer, Declan Flanagan, confirm this.

He said: "Clare County Council has reviewed the proposal of linking sections of footpaths between the graveyard and canal bridge in O’Briensbridge.

"Following inspection and a survey, land dedication will be required, as there is insufficient road width to accommodate a new footpath. Killaloe MD will commence engaging with the local landowners and stakeholders to identify if the scheme can progress."

Saying that "some concerns" remain regarding the amenity of pedestrians on the proposed section, Mr Flanagan said funding will have to come from somewhere "to deliver this scheme" in its entirety.
