FOND tributes have been paid to a successful Limerick businessman and keen golfer, Gerry Clancy.
Mr Clancy was best known as the owner of Clancy's Electrical in Limerick city, which had been established by his grandfather on O'Connell street in 1936, and which he successfully ran for over 60 years.
Lahinch Golf Club has led the tributes to the late Mr Clancy, who passed away peacefully at Carrigoran House Nursing Home on Sunday, December 10.
Mr Clancy was remembered by Paddy Keane, general manager of Lahinch Golf Club, as "well-respected" and "a devoted family man, [who] instilled his love of Lahinch in his children and grandchildren."
"He was a gentleman who always greeted people with a smile and his warm, quiet and unassuming witty personality will be remembered by all who knew him," Mr Keane said.
According to Mr Keane, Mr Clancy joined Lahinch Golf Club in 1971 with his wife Noreen. They shortly afterwards bought Sandhill Lodge, just a wedge from the golf club, where they would spend most of their family holidays and, in later years, most weekends enjoying everything Lahinch and the surrounding area has to offer.
"Gerry served the community with distinction and was well respected amongst his peers within the local business community," Mr Keane continued.
"He was well respected by everyone at the Club and while he was unable to visit over the past few years due to illness, he will be deeply missed by his many friends and colleagues at the Club.
"On behalf of the Club Council, Trustees, Officers, Committees, members and staff at Lahinch Golf Club, we wish to extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Noreen, daughters Edel and Joanne, sons Gerry and Dermot, and extended family and friends.
"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."
Mr Clancy was also involved with Old Crescent RFC and Castletroy Golf Club. He is survived by his wife Noreen, and sons and daughters Gerry, Dermot, Edel and Joanne, and will be sadly missed by his loving sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, his cherished grandchildren Gerard, Anna, Sarah, Noel, Grace, Lily and Dylan, brothers Terry and Raymond, sisters Marilyn and Louise, nephews, nieces, extended family and a wide circle of friends.
He will be laid to rest at Kilmurry Cemetery in Castletroy on Wednesday, December 13, following funeral mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Ennis Road at 11am. The funeral mass can be livestreamed here.
Family flowers only please, donations if desired to the Alzheimer’s Association Limerick Branch.
